Colorful, lyrical, evocative and playful, this one-movement piece alternates between the rhapsodic and the rhythmic, using the full English Horn range. The work was commissioned by George Corbett in memory of his grandmother Carrie Bier, whose favorite song, “Close to You”, played on her music box. Fragments of the song and a motive that joins their two initials (CB and GC) form the basis for the work.
